The Eclipse Windmill
A Tribute to Midwest Farm Ingenuity

Before electric pumps and rural water systems, wind powered the Midwest.
Wooden vanes turned against open sky.
Iron rods moved deep below ground.
And water rose because the wind was willing.
This handcrafted sculpture honors the legacy of the Eclipse windmills that once dotted Iowa fields and sustained early farmsteads.

More Than Machinery

A windmill was independence.
It meant:
  • Water for livestock
  • Water for family
  • Survival during dry years
  • Engineering meeting necessity
This sculpture preserves that spirit — the quiet innovation that made Midwest agriculture possible.

Details of the Piece

  • 3” x 5” x 11” tall
  • Fully handcrafted wooden tower
  • Individually shaped and weathered wood vanes
  • “Eclipse” hand-painted and aged across the wheel
  • Detailed mechanical pump housing below
  • Subtle vine growth climbing the structure
  • Time-worn finish reflecting decades of imagined seasons
The wood shows wear. The paint has softened.
The structure stands resilient, like it has turned in the wind for generations.
